The new space makes the dramatic desert landscape part of the experience, with oversized windows that look out on the San Jacinto Mountains. The sand-colored tile and earth-toned walls are offset by maroon and black accents. Custom-built styling stations are equipped with Belvedere Cleopatra chairs. A glass-walled color lab was also custom-designed, and serves as a focal point of the salon. Surprising elements, like the zebra-striped pillows in the pedicure lounge, keep the mood light. “The most common comment we hear is how welcoming the space is from the minute clients walk through the door,” says salon owner Michele Gerber. The spa, owned by Nikki Roman, has its own space on the second floor. Guests are greeted at the top of the stairs by a waterfall outside a waiting area that Roman has dubbed the Siren Lounge. Extra soundproofing between the floors ensures a tranquil spa atmosphere apart from the hustle-bustle of the salon. There are four treatment rooms for skincare and massage, two of which are large enough for couples’ services. “I always imagined myself becoming a spa owner and designing the whole thing,” Roman says. “To see and work in it and hear all of the great responses from clients, both new and old, is so rewarding.” ✂ —Karen Ford CLOCKWISE, FROM TOP: The Siren Lounge, where spa guests relax between services; each treatment room expresses the individual personality of its therapist; the pedicure area includes two Moen soaking sinks and a Sanijet whirlpool sink. 56 American Salon May 2012
