By kelley donahue PhotograPhy By tania Quintanilla L’Azure—a stunning new collection from Allen Ruiz seen exclusively on these pages—evokes the mystery of the sea, as well as the satin-matte texture of the semiprecious stone lapis lazuli. “The whole concept was inspired by textures and movement of underwater life, especially weightless, flowing shapes carved out by nature,” says Ruiz, a member Aveda’s North American Artistic Team and the owner of the Jackson Ruiz Salon in Austin, Texas. Ruiz called on braiding, wet sculpting, disconnection, webbing, pinning and tonging techniques and Aveda products to create the fluent shapes. “The looks are feminine and gentle yet assertive at the same time,” Ruiz says.
