Family Ties floor plan American Salon provides an exclusive look inside West Hollywood, CA’s hippest new hair establishment: Eden by Eden Sassoon. It looks like good hair DNA runs in the family. Eden Sassoon, daughter of the late legendary and magnanimous scissor wizard Vidal Sassoon, has recently opened the doors to Eden by Eden Sassoon, a finishing studio situated in Sunset Plaza on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, CA. Sassoon says the epiphany actually came to her while sitting in a chair at a blow-dry salon. “I asked myself, ‘Why is it that you can only get your hair done here, and there aren’t any makeup or nail services offered?’” she says. “My brain kicked into high gear, and by the time the blow-dry was done, my idea of a finishing studio was born.” Sassoon also admits to being keen on the notion partly because it helps keep her father’s name alive. “I had a chance to share the concept with my father, and he told me he loved it, was very proud and gave me his blessing to move forward,” she says. The result is a 1,500-square-foot space that boasts a modern Malibu, CA-chic design aesthetic. Interior features include comfortable client seating, a soft color scheme, and natural wood flooring and stations, as well as styling chairs with curved dark wood from Takara Belmont. “I really wanted the environment to be inviting, one where all women would feel comfortable and not judged,” Sassoon says. That welcoming theme also pervades the salon with black-and-white photography depicting the Los Angeles and Malibu beach lifestyle, as well as fashion and beauty shots. “Several pieces were provided by L.A.-based photographers who are close friends of mine, including Davis Factor, Scott Caan and Patrick Hoelck,” Sassoon says. The finishing studio is a hybrid of a full-service salon and a blow-dry bar. It offers styling, manicures and eyebrow services under one roof, all for $65 and in 65 minutes. “It’s been a huge success,” says Sassoon, who uses top-drawer brands like Sojourn (a haircare line owned by her brother, Elan Sassoon), Smashbox Cosmetics and Butter London for nails. “Our clients come in again and again for this trifecta. I want clients to walk out in love with themselves. How you feel about yourself is the energy you carry with you.” ✂ —Kelley Donahue January 2013 American Salon 57
