Made Man Barber Shop 170 W. 23rd St., New York, NY 10011 646/634-2232 ■ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Owner of Made Man Barbershop Sam Chulpayev’s family has been in the barbering business for over 100 years and the barbers there can pull off both classic and trendy looks. The shop is decorated with many antique finds highlighting the golden age of barbering— the five barbering chairs are from 1901. There’s also a 1950’s black-and-white phone, an 1880’s brass cash register and a 1930’s soap machine. This isn’t your regular ol’ barbershop only catering to one kind of customer. Anyone is welcome but most of their clients stay away from the basic cut and style. For example, a few popular cuts are one fades with long-top pompadours, faux hawks and full-scissor trims. Other services include beard trims and a deep tissue shave that includes a scalp massage. Even men need to relax once in awhile.
