Framar International Revamps Brand Identity Canadian-based Framar International, makers of Foil It pre-cut sheets, roll foil and related products, celebrated 25 years in business in 2011 and, as part of the milestone, revamped its brand image and product line just in time for the 2012 trade show season. “Coming into our 25th year in the industry, we knew Stylists of Bastrop, Texas-area salons donate funds to the Bastrop Pregnancy Resource Center as part of the Matrix Color-a-Thon. Matrix Color-a-Thon Raises Funds for Pregnancy Center in Texas As part of the Matrix Chairs of Change initiative, Texas-based salons Best Lil’ Hair House and LeeAnn’s Salon of Bastrop and Heavenly Hair Salon and Spa of Elgin participated in the first-ever Matrix Color-a-Thon in early March that raised more than $3,000 for the Bastrop Pregnancy Resource Center. The center provides information on pregnancy and adoption, along with counseling and essential items, like baby food and diapers, for women of all ages. Matrix Territory Manager Garrett Rossero organized the Color-a-Thon, which was held at Best Lil’ Hair House. The event provided free color services in exchange for a donation to the center. Eight volunteer colorists from the three salons, along with three Matrix educators (Leticia Ysassi, Jessica Viesca and Liz Muniz), serviced more than 90 clients throughout the day. As part of the event, Matrix provided the color and back bar supplies and refreshments, Heavenly Hair Salon and Spa offered free massages, and volunteers from the Bastrop Pregnancy Resource Center served food and provided information on the center’s services. —J.T. DaySmart Software, Named One of Michigan’s Fastest Growing Companies DaySmart Software, the makers of Salon Iris, has been named on the Michigan 50 Companies to Watch list for 2012. The award, administered by the Edward Lowe Foundation, is given every year to companies who show future promise and are making a big impact on Michigan’s economy. “Our company is extremely honored to receive this award and recognition,” said Mark Jackson, president of DaySmart Software. —A.E. we wanted to celebrate with a bang,” Maria Gallo said about the company she co-owns with her husband, Frank Gallo, who was inspired to start the business after seeing how stylists were using foils in their haircoloring services during a trip he took to England in 1985. “My son Giovanni came on board with a vision to change our image into something cool and edgy. We then sought out a creative team to take his ideas and help us develop our brand into something that truly spoke to colorists.” The new image includes vibrant colors, eye-catching graphics and innovative packaging. Along with the visual changes, the company has also created easier-to-use options for their customers, such as self-dispensing boxes. As part of the brand re-launch, Framar is holding a contest for salons and stylists to win free foil for a year. Entries are being accepted on the company’s website, foil-it.com, until June 30. —J.T. Farouk Systems and Pageant Winners Visit Texas Children’s Hospital As part of the ongoing partnership with the Miss Universe Organization, Farouk Systems founder and chairman Farouk Shami joined Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes and Miss Teen USA 2011 Danielle Doty in March at the Texas Children’s Hospital, where the three posed for photographs, signed autographs and distributed gift bags filled with Farouk Systems Biosilk Kids haircare products to the hospital’s patients. “I’m so honored Texas Children’s Hospital and the Miss Universe Organization asked me to join them on this amazing day,” Shami said. “I was thrilled that our presence put such huge smiles on their faces.” This summer, Farouk Systems will be the presenting sponsor of both the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants for the first time. —M.R.
